Why in the world can I not reply to a voice msg that was left by another employee here...

I get the msg:

"you can not use the sytem to reply to a non subscriber"

Octel 250 aria is what I am running.

how do you know that is was from a user on the system ? did they just call your phone ? or did they send it from within their mailbox ? what kind of PBX and FLT cards in the 250 ?

I tested it. I had someone in the office dial my ext, lave a msg and I could not reply to it using option 8.

It gave the "you can not use the sytem to reply to a non subscriber" msg

I then listened to the envelope info for the msg and it says it's from an outside caller.

I dialed my own extension from my phone, same results.

The cards ... how can I find out details on them?

Looking at the server I see 3 cards.
CCF / FLT / LAN

from option 13.11 it shows

List of Active Card(s):
Card Slot 2 FLT ..... 8 FLT lines
Card Slot 8 LAN Card

Does your menu 1-1 show as below? this tells the octel to use the callers ext number to match it with a mailbox, or it could be that the PBX is not sending it

What pbx are you using?

Sender ID Used for Telephone Answering Messages: 2 - Calling Party, if Known

That was it. I changed it to "2" and it works.

The problem is I am trying to learn this system and it has already been configured (apparently incorrectly)

Thank you very much for your help!
