I have an Octel 250 with an Avaya MutiVantage 11 - I have successfully set up OutCalling Notification to call an extension on our helpdesk once a message has been left in the voice mail box, but the problem is that when the Agent answers the phone they hear a beep then Octel disconnects. Also on the phone (CallMasters) the displayed name is simply the associated station port name so the Agent does not know which voice mail box has the message in it. We have multiple voice mail boxes and I am trying to avoid MWI assignments. Any ideas please.

In menu 9.1, set the paging type to 0 - No paging. The Agent will be prompted to enter a password to enter the mailbox. The beep that is heard is the Octel outcalling to a numeric paging system and trying to send DTMF

2 other things you can try:

1. Set up some dummy extensions.

If the agent phone has unused buttons, set up one of the available buttons as message waiting for one of the dummy extensions. In voice mail menu 9.1, set the extension as the dummy extension. This is how the Octel tells the ACD/PBX which light to turn on. The agent will know which mailbox to check.

2. Give the agent a numeric pager. In menu 9.1, set up the outcalling to the pager. In the auth code field, put in the extension of the mailbox. When the agent receives a page, (s)he will get a numeric page with the mailbox to check.

Option 2 works very well. I work at a company where several mailboxes need to be checked. I receive numeric pages for any of these mailboxes.

You can also use visual messenger or . messenger to check any mailbox on the system

Can explain what visual messanger is please? Is this an add-on from Avaya? Thank you.

It runs on a win 2000 server and it gives you visual access to your mailbox or mailboxes and you can receive your vm and faxes. There is a client that must be loaded on the end-user’s PC. The nice thing about it is that you can also drag the message from the Octel to your pc and store it forever and also convert it to a wave file to email it to someone else.

You must have a LAN card in your octel to do this and you must me at release 3.1x to use the newest OAS software.

Thanks Ken. By the way I have a LAN card on the Octel and was told by Avaya that it can only be used for connecting Octel Server to another server and cannot be used for administration access, do you know if this is correct cause right now I use dial-up on my 250 to do Admin work?

I have never seen one but i have talked to people that say they have a program that will do admin via the Lan. you can use the OCL Octel cammad lag to do this with but i donot have it or a copy of it. If you have a programmer on staff that is anygood they may be able to write something for it.

I am hoping to get my hands on one some day
