Our company has a Smooth Operator 3.1 (essentially an Octel 50) voice mail system. I run the QASSIST (Rebuild option) maintenance routine in order to clear out the error log and get rid of unattached messages. Here are my quandries:

. The routine deletes legimately saved voice mail messages. I guess this isn't a problem since I prompt the mailbox owners to clear out all saved messages a couple of days prior to running the routine. So this issue isn't that big of a deal.

. I have the night service mailbox (999) set as the 'Default Box', I am assuming this is for deleted messages? I also have the 'Delete Unattached Msg' checkbox selected, and the 'Verify' checkbox selected for 'Before Create.' This is so that all orphaned messages are deleted and I can choose not to create any old, deleted mailboxes.

For some reason our CEO's mailbox (500) gets full of old messages he has already deleted long before myself running the QASSIST routine. I can look and see only 4 saved messages displayed prior to running the routine. After running the routine his mailbox is full of old deleted messages up to its class of service capacity (99 messages).

Is there some other place where this 500 mailbox is assigned as a default destination? I am thinking I have to run QASSIST under the Rebuild option to really clear out the error log and clean things up. But with these perceived glitches I am a little gunshy.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I have found out the reason behind the 500 mailbox issue. A feature of the QASSIST Rebuild is to restore deleted distribution list messages. The first mailbox listed in the distribution list receives these deleted messages. As far as I can tell there is no way to disable this function. As a workaround I will recreate the distribution list and put someone else's (i.e. - a less prominent employee) mailbox at the head of the list.

This might be a *workaround* but it's far from satisfactory. Anyone have another suggestion?
