Hi there. We have an octel 250, and we're experiencing problems periodically where people don't get their messages immediately after they have been left. Sometimes they don't get the message at all, or the message is delayed and teh user receives in a week or 2 later.

Is there something that we can do or look at to determine the problem here?

Thanks

Jordon

Have you tried the On line CDR for the problem boxes?
Menu 20, 13, 2 Put in a date range and the mailbox number and print out the message detail.

I would guess that it is a problem with the Message Waiting indicators (MWI) When a MWI does not turn on, the user does not know they have a message. Look in that area for your problem.

Check your MWI option for each Mailbox as stated by kxboy both on Octel and the PBX though. Then if that is ok, remove the option that allows the Subscriber the ability to turn on/off the MWI. All Subscribers by default have the ability to control the MWI display notification, this can be turned off but it is system wide. This means that if you do turn it off you have to make sure EVERYONE has it turned on first then turn off the default setting which will freeze all present and future Subscribers to 'on'. Otherwise if even one Subscriber has turned it off for themselves, when you set it system wide that Subscriber will be permantly set to off. This is what happened to me, it then becomes a hassle to correct the issue. Best to do this after-hours so none is in a mailbaox at the time you set it.

actually, they're getting a delayed MIK on the MWI. Everyone has their MWI turned on. I'll try the CDR and see what we see.

I've gotten reports lately that 4 mailboxes are exhibiting the same problem, including our CEO, so that's not good.

I think everyone is on the right track. It must be the Message waiting. What type of intergration are you using with the Octel. And make sure that CDR is turned on in menu 16 1 4

I think it's SL1 integration. They're all using Digital TNs to the octel.

in menu 4 how many ports are flaged for message waiting under the M and are they set to take incoming call's. This can be a major problem if they are taking incoming as well as setting the light.

Ok, we have 12 lines going to the pbx. line 12 is set to not answer incoming, outgoing and only is flagged for message notification. It's LN TP is 148 and is part of group 2. The first 11 lines are in group one, and all answer incoing. only 4 do outgoing.

how do you receive the cdr report? Tried xmodem, kermit, ascii and zmodem, and none of them seem to work.

hmmm

you go to menu 20 and then the online cdr menu and then menu 2 and look for event 18 that is the message waiting event. you can't down load the online cdr but you can download the raw cdr data from menu 16 and you must use x modem. but then you need somthing to load that raw data into. If you need help let me know an i can call you

I have been experiencing delayed Message Waiting lights on a few peoples phones over the last week or so. Seems I don't have enough ports available to light lights and more people than ports. I did a search and Tech tips came up with theis post. Great work and great information.

I currently only have one port set to Y under M for message. We curently have 24 ports configured and traffic rarely goes to the last 8.

What other considerations are there if I change one of the ports to Y on the last card?

Thank You in advance!!

Keith

what type of pbx do you have and what type of ports. Also does the mess waiting port take incoming calls? if so it sould not.

No it is only a message waiting light port.

We have a Nortel option 81c

Keith

Have you looked at the online CDR to see what it is doing as far as the message waiting IE how long from the time a message is sent before it turns on the light ?
