The eLAN isn't supported until release S.3.X., and even at that release I think it was only for the Octel Designer. Release S.4.X gives you the telnet and LAN backup (with the LAN backup feature turned on).

I double checked and the LAN card came out with L.8.1 and S.1.X . It only mentions the Digital Networking features SW 40049. Release S.2.X mentions LAN backup. The telnet feature is S.4.x (system paramter 297).

Thanks Chuck.
We have some customers using Serenade S2 with the ELAN board. They are using LAN backup and Digital Networking with the S2.
I will try to upgrade the OCTEL 200 to S2 to see if I can add the LAN backup feature.
Upgrading from S1 to S2 is just a matter of extra RAM, but with the upgrade from S1 to S4, I will need a new CPU.

Anyway thanks for your info.

I have the original Serenade 1 manuals (paper) and there is the relevant chapter for Digital networking in there, so I am sure it will work without the upgrade, but you may need the correct software packages.

Many years ago I upgraded a system from 1 to 2 and had to install the RAM. I was alone on a Sunday morning in the customers offices in Copenhagen, I had never done this upgrade before and I was a little nervous. I snapped the RAM chips whilst trying to force them in. After a mild bout of panic and swearing I decided to contine with the upgrade with just 8 mb of RAM (I think it was supposed to have 16). The upgrade worked (with a few error messages) and I left on time for my flight home. Never told anyone, but it worked OK!

Hi Jon

I did the same job upgrading from S1 to S2. No additional RAM was installed because the RAM didn't arrive on time. It was installed some weeks later.
I was a bit scared that the system would go down in the period, where there was lack of RAM, but no problems at all.

ELAN works fine with OCTEL S.2.
With OCTEL S.1 I did not succeed very much.
Problem solved, case closed.
