Fellas!

I need to know how to get the ELAN card to work step-to -step wise.
The ELAN is programmed in its slot (BOARD ID = 22)and the sys par 223 till 230 are programmed.
Still LANSTAT and PING doesn´t work. The System is up and running and the ELAN board is connected to the the customers LAN.

@LANSTAT
LAN STATUS: DOWN. SELF IP ADDRESS NOT CONFIGURED

DIGITAL NETWORKING STATUS: DOWN.

GWL STATUS: DOWN - GATEWAY LINK SYSTEM PARAMETER IS NOT ENABLED

(Need to program more on this!)

Ping command
CMD 06 PING 192.168.1.1

LAN (Ethernet) Link: 01/31/1997 04:34:22 (01a3c260:01a3c260) Rev 2.0.6

Current Time: 11/20/1902 17:54:50 @ Slot 6

It seems that the LAN card is down. The time seems to be a little out too!

Have you restarted the system since installing the LAN card and configuring it? Have you tried the LAN commands
@CU LAN (Courtesy UP the LAN card, and CD LAN to take it down) I might also try pulling the card out and re-seating it to force it to start up. Be a little patient, it can take upto 10 minutes.

When it is up, can it PING itself?

Jon

Hi Jon

I tried both CULAN and CDLAN.
Ping was not possible. The system was restarted several times. I will try to pull the card and put it back.
Can the time be set on the ELAN, separately?

///doktor

I will check for this in the near future...

Jon

At least these 3 licenses are applied...

SW-40049 /// Remote Digital Networking.
SW-40053 /// Domain Digital Networking.
SW-40057 /// LAN Backup and Restore

But the customer just wants to do "LAN Backup and Restore",
so the "57" is the most important, I think.
S/w release is S.2.0.2-2.

///dokor

Did you setup the "Self" IP address and subnet mask using the M LOC command ?

Chuck

RCT Technologies

Hi Chuck!

No, I did not. This was because of lack of documentation.
Maybe you can help me with a step-to-step list of what to do?
Thanks in advance.
///doktor

Also, something else to mention is that the system may not have all the S.2.0.2 patches. Especially based on the time problem from the LAN card. Check out the patch log for S.2.0.0-2 on the Avaya web site(patch 107). It also mentions something about a patch for a LAN backup problems (125 and 128). It should be easy to upgrade to S.3.0.1

Chuck

The networking information in the LOCATION Table contains the information necessary to access the remote host for the LAN Backup and Restore operation. The IP address and subnet mask fields (optional) for SELF are entered into the LOCATION Table. Modify the LOCATION Table entry for SELF, if this needs to be changed.

In Update use the M LOC command and enter. Put in "Self" and then change the Self.

Example:

RCT.m loc
Enter existing LOCATION NAME.
MOD:self

What is the PUBLIC SYSTEM NUMBER (CC#TC#SN#) for SELF ?
(empty line = )
MOD:

What is the PRIVATE SYSTEM NUMBER (0##N#) for SELF ?
(empty line = NONE)
MOD:
Enter the OCTELNET SERIAL NUMBER for SELF .
(Empty line = )
MOD:

Enter the DIGITAL LOCATION NAME for SELF on the DIGITAL NETWORK
(empty line = RCT)
MOD:

Enter the IP ADDRESS for SELF on the DIGITAL NETWORK
(empty line = XXX.XX.XX.XX)
MOD:

Enter the SUBNET MASK for this DIGITAL NETWORK
(empty line = 255.255.255.0)
MOD:
SELF saved.

Thanks Chuck!
I will test this asap!

Hi Chuck

Little late, but now it works!
See the pasted commands below...
BUT.
Still I am not able to telnet into the system.
Was telnet first possible with Serenade 4.0??

I used these commands to setup the ELAN card in Serenade S.2.0.2-2:

.m loc
Enter existing LOCATION NAME.

MOD:

Enter the DIGITAL LOCATION NAME for SELF on the DIGITAL NETWORK
(empty line = NONE)
MOD:

MOD:

Enter the SUBNET MASK for this DIGITAL NETWORK
(empty line = 255.255.255.0)
MOD:

Enter existing LOCATION NAME.
MOD:

SELF PRIVATE NUMBER :NONE

SELF OCTELNET SERIAL NUMBER: NONE

SELF DIGITAL LOCATION NAME :
SELF IP ADDRESS : 192.168.1.188
SUBNET MASK : 255.255.255.0

Here are also the sys par settings for the ELAN...

.l sys
Enter system parameter index.

237 CELLAR L/M LAN: SNMP LOCATION OF VOICE MAIL CABINET

I don't think you can telnet till S.4.X . System parameter 297 is the telnet parameter in order to turn it on or off.

OK, I will see if System parameter 297 exists, or I will need to upgrade.
I also need to check for patches as you wrote earlier:
"Check out the patch log for S.2.0.0-2 on the Avaya web site(patch 107). It also mentions something about a patch for a LAN backup problems (125 and 128)"

Thank you for your help.
///doktor

I checked up on a cutomer running OCTEL 200 with "SYSTEM SOFTWARE RELEASE S.4.0.0-2 (04/30/99)"
The sys par #297 says:
297 YES L/M TELNET: ENABLE TELNET SERVER
The sys par #300 says:
300 23 L/M TELNET: TELNET SERVER PORT NUMBER

So I need to upgrade from S.2.0.2-2 at least S.4.0.0-2.

What can the ELAN board else be used to in s/w S.2.0.2-2 seen apart from digital networking?
SNMP?
///doktor

Hi again

Maybe you also have a link to the patches:

"Avaya web site(patch 107). It also mentions something about a patch for a LAN backup problems (125 and 128)"
These 3 patches are not enebled in the S.2.0.2-2 system
///doktor

Release S.4.X was the only release where you could download and apply patches without the assistance of Avaya TAC.

Hi Chuck

I was aware of this:
In the S.4 we have the sys par #298, which does not exist in S.1 and S.2.

298 YES Enable patching at Maintenance level
