Hello My Mentor Threaders,

I am trying to conduct floppy backups on an Octel 200/300 Serenade v S-3.0.1-2. of all names, greetings, etc (option 6 of the backup menu) I kept getting "Program Abort", so I formatted floppys just as they would be when they come from the factory and still get the abort message. I am able to save the configuration and it seems to "save" but this backup "thing" is being a pain. As far as I can tell, it has been nearly 3 years since the last backups. (not config) Any formatting or disk tricks?

The only time I have gotten the "Program Abort" is when I have pressed the ESC key to stop the backup. I usually get an error message first if it can't read or format the floppy. Are you connecting directly to the serial port of the 200/300 when doing the names/greetings backup or are you calling in through the modem?? Maybe there is noise on the modem line?

I usually just use new IBM formatted floppies and then just stick them into the floppy drive assembly, but it shouldn't really matter whether it is formatted or not because when you do the backup the 200/300 will format the floppy first.

The OCTEL 200/300 format the disks itself.
Just if OCTEL 200/300 finds out that it is the System Configuration disk or any Software Update diskette, then an error message will come up.
I usually take new floppies just from the box and make my back-up. Normally the back-up is done on-site,
but I think there is no problem in doing it remotely - just you will have to have a person on-site to take-out and insert the floppies.

Thanx Folks,

I'm figuring noise on the modem...grrrr....the discs that I was placing in the drive were previous backups, not config disks or updates. It did start backing up to one of them and then aborted, must be noise...I'll try the hyperterminal...as soon as this great weather pattern stops blasting us with lightning here....another fine week!!!
