Our company has been in the process of replacing our Merlin Legends with Avaya Definity ProLogix PBXs. Since most of these sites use an Octel 100, I've noticed a trend. Now that they are on a Definity, they can't properly detect when a caller hangs up. This is a problem in that there is a long silence after a message or when a caller hangs up during a greeting, a short silent message is recorded as the Octel still thinks the caller is there.

All of these systems use analog in-band integration. The switch integrator has been run on all the systems and set to the correct PBX. The Definity also has the voice mail ports configured as type VMI. Am I missing something? The only similarity that I can find from these systems is that they used to be used with Merlin Legends.

Thanks,
Chris

I have seen the same problem on Intuity Lx connected to a Definity, and they played with the db setting on the ports, but I don't know where that would be on a Octel 100. I haven't worked on one of them buggers for years and years.

Hi HmmG3

With other OCTEl systems using analog in-band integration (DTMF tones are used as signalling) I have observed the same problems.
The Octel systems with a separate data link seems to be much faster to e.g. hang-up or begin to send MWI signals.
But unfortunately PBX systems only support in-band or data link signalling.
So, if you are buying a new PBX make sure that it is possible to have integration by means of a data link.
(Of course this will be a more expensiver solution).

Best regards doktor.

I'll look into the db settings. While not directly configurable under the main configuration menu, it should be contained in a PBX intregation file somewhere. Fortunately, I have a spare Octel 100 that I can work on without testing a production system.

Thanks.

4.1 DISCONNECT TYPE
The ProLogix / G3 sends a disconnect by interrupting the loop current (removing battery) for 900 ms upon receiving a disconnect from the central office or an internal station. Use “Adjunct Supervision? y”, when configuring the single-line ports. For proper external disconnect supervision for the ProLogix / G3, Ground start or Supervised (Reliable Disconnect) Loop start CO lines are recommended.

That did it! And I learned something new! Thanks.

When I first learned of this problem, the first thing I checked was the trunks. I wanted to make sure that the PBX was detecting the disconnect. If it wasn't, then the problem was there and needed to be addressed first. Since all of our PBXs were working fine, I figured it had to be something in the Octel. Looks like a couple of our vendors (and myself), missed the station setting.

Thanks again!
