Hi all,

I am trying to log on to our Octel 100 remotely. The details that were left behind from the previous administrator are:

1200,7,1,EVEN

I'm using Hyperterminal. I can dial the system successfully but when ###5 is input I hear the modem for approx. one sec and then the greeting is played again e.g.

"Thank you for calling....."

I know the system password but cannot get the the prompt to enter it.

Any help would be most greatful!

Thanks.

The build-in modem could be disabled.

Try to call the main number for the VMX-100, and dial ###5 while it speaks "Thank you for calling.....".

If the build-in modem is disabled, you need to logon locally and at the @-prompt write MOD ENABLE.

The setup "1200,7,1,EVEN" is OK.

Hi doktor,

Yes, when I dial the VMX-100 from a telephone there is a continuious modem tone, (I don't hear a repeat of "Thank you for calling) which suggests that the modem is enabled?

There shouldn't really be any reason for it to be disabled as there would've been maintenance done on the vm up until recently.

Any ideas!?

Yes!

If your VMX-100 (Voice-100) is connected to an MD100 there could be a problem with the data-link integration.
This datalink is an ICU board in the Ericsson MD110. If it isn't working well then you need 3 ringback when calling in on the main group number for the voice mail server.
So, you need to check for alarm 281/282 in the MD110.
Maybe restart the ICU board (or NIU) or some prograns depending on the software level of the MD110.
For the Voice 100, it would be nice if you could post the alarm logg (@L H).
To connect to the Voice 100 do a:
ATDTxxxxxxxx,,,,,,###5
The xxx is the number for the system, and the commas (,) indicate a "second or two to wait" before the ###5 is sent.

Let me know of your progress.

doktor,

The only alarm on the MD is code 38, not related. The MD is a BC9.0.

As I say I can't even get to log on to the Voice 100 so I can't get you the alarm log, sorry.

Just looking at HyperTerm and it seems it could be a problem there, I have it set-up to previous spec (1200,7-N-1) but when I call out, it appears to resort back to 1200 8-N-1 in the bottom pane? I'm sure this isn't supposed to happen but why is it happening!?

Sorry, my fault there, was just using the wrong option. I'm connecting now at 1200, 7-E-1, the modem answers the call but I just hear the continuous modem sound and then comes back no answer?

Yes! You are near the goal!
There could be 2 reasons for that.
1.
Your modem does not support Bell-mode.
Try to call another OCTEL voice mail system, to see if you can log in. (Or use the modem, you normally use).

2.
With Hyperterminal the settings should be :
"1200,7,1,EVEN" and flow control should be NONE (disabled).

Try this.

It takes me up to 7-8 attempts for a sucessful log in but can get one at least! Thanks for the help Dok!

When logged in remotely check the @L H and post the result.
Could be a defective HDD. Remove the customer name and serial number from your printouts.
Also make a @DEX 1 (check of HDD). Bad secors are shown in the printout as the sector number with digits in the "000000" rows. "000000" means: no faults.
A periodically "defective" modem in the VMX-100 could also be because of bad or non-existing grounding, or the common grounding cable between the MD110 and the VMX-100 is missing.
