I have spent the last Ten years working in
the Mainframe environment(Helpdesk Problem/Change ETC)

Their seems to be little work in my area of expertise
recently, so I am considering following the OCA/OCP
Certification track.

Would this be a wise move for a 44 Year old to pursue?

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

I'm 46 and I'm doing it.

I have worked for 3 years as a DBA Oracle. I received my training at the university of do it now.

My personal experience has been that there is more interest in my resume, now that I have 2 out of 5 OCP certifications.

The certification indicates that you aren't stagnating, but that you are continuing to develop your skills.

Age, of course, is a factor, but you can always say, "Look, I am 40, 50, or whatever, and I still have the ability and desire to learn".

How much the certification will help, is also related to the job market where you live.

You might try to talk with a recruiter or placement firm (Robert Haf) to examine your possibilities.

Hope this has been helpful,
