I know, I am a complete idiot!

I use Win XP Pro, and being real smart, I encrypted a couple of my directories in My Documents. Just to see how well it worked, you know. Well, it worked extremely well. My workstation is used by myself and a couple of my kids. Anyway, to cut a long story short, it got virused, and I reformatted. I re-installed the backed up directories, but I didn't back up my private key, did I?

I cannot locate the certificates that the Windows Help says have been installed by default for just such a situation.

HELP, PLEASE?

Well, since you reformatted the drive (where your certificates were) the folders are pretty much toast.
If you back system information from XP pro, (admin account info) you could login as administrator and recover the folders and re-establish the certificates.
You might also check Microsoft's web site Technet and look for (EFS) encrypted file system for more information.

Thanks kshugart.

I thought that would be the case, I have come to terms with the loss, and am starting to re-write history.
