Can anyone tell if there is a way to reset the OBP without actually doing anything from the OBP <ok> or unix prompt <#>?

The reason I was asking is because I have v880 (without an OS) with no access to the OBP. When I try to access to OBP alot of unreadable info scroll by on the screen.

if you have a keyboard

power on the system, hold down the <stop> <n> keys for 5 or so seconds, this will set the OBP back to default settings

Actually this has a type6 keyboard (USB), so there is no stop-n available. You need to;

Power off the system, then power it backon, wait a little bit until you see a long rapid flash of the maintenance LED. Once you see the rapid flash push the power button twice(like you are clicking a mouse, do not hold it down). If you press the button too soon the unit will just power off.
This procedure will reset the nvram.

Thanks

cndcadams, I stared at the front panel for a long time, I did see the maintenance LED flash or even come. I tried with the key in the NORMAL, LOCKED, and Diagnostics position.

Maybe there is something I not doing?

so you turned the unit off with the key, then you turned the key to normal position, push the power button, you will get amber lights blinking on the wrench and the symbol to the right of it, continue to wait for atleast 30 seconds to a minute and they amber led under the wrench symbol will start to blink rapidly then push the power button twice.

Thanks

cndcadams, I did as you said, but there just isnt any amber light coming on or flashing.

I might have a bad front panel. If you have anymore suggestions please let me know.

Ok. When you turn the key to normal and hit the power on button does it do anything (do the fans spin up, does power get to the system)?

You need to have atleast 2 out of three power supplies plugged in. There should be green leds on the power supplies If they are receiving power(If I remember correctly).

If you only have 2 power supplies and 1 went bad then i believe you may see symptoms similar to yours. I can check this in the morning, I have a test v880.

Was this a running system?

Did you install anything new?

Really if there was bad hardware the system should still receive power on power on but you could do the below for the heck of it.

What I would do is limit the hardware in the system.

Say if you have 2 system board I would remove 1 of them and try to power on. If you have the same symptoms I would take that system board out and put the other one in. if you have the same symptom take out your PCI cards if any and try a power on and see what happens. If you get power then I would reinstall PCI cards 1 or two at a time and check to see if you still receive power.

Do you have a video card in this? Are you hooking a PC up to the Serial Port?

Give me as much info as possible.

Thanks

cndcadams,

Thanks for all your help. I finally have a readable screen of the OBP. All I did was took one of my HP console, hooked it up to the v880 and reset it[OBP] back to defaults.

I think I need a new front panel for this system - Im still not seeing any active on the maintenance and OK-to-Remove LEDs.

Thanks!!
