objects jumping between layers!! 1

Ok, I was going about things the wrong way.. but I am trying to correct my ways. I created this detailed technical drawing with different line thicknesses, dimensions etc. all in one layer. Then I created layers for each object type and carefully moved every object type to its respective layer (ouch!). Everything looks and works great until I save the file. Upon saving, everything reverts back to the "Desktop" layer in the Master Page. Why???? If it helps, some my objects are outside the traditional 8.5 x 11 page boundary.

I am using CD10 on WinXPPro. Can someone pls help me out?

This probable because your objects are outside the 'page'. Icrease your pagesize or move objects inside existing page.

Thanks.. I kinda was fearing that was the reason. I changed the scale of my document to 1:12 since I was dealing in inches and feet, and everything works fine.

By the way, I wanted to know if / where I can change some of the dimension settings. I see some quirks like some dimensions get locked to the spot and stretch when i move the object, while others move effortlessly with the object.
