Anyone using the object importer?

When using the upload directory in Livelink (recommended by OT for security reasons), you HAVE to use this directory for imports. AFAIK there is no patch for this.

This breaks all our scripts and safety mechanisms for fool proof imports we were using in 9.0!

Any experience with this new 'feature' and how to live with it?

I use the object importer extensively.I have not changed the upload path.We have created a control directory
and usually the actual files do not get loaded into the livelink server but we rather ask our customers to provide
an UNC into them.They have to just make sure that the livelink service user can see them.
Code:
<node type="document" action="sync">
<location>Enterprise:our path</location>
<title>DOR627_CoralEne_060516</title>
<file provider="EXTSHARED">\\ourserver\root$\DOR627_CoralEne_060516.doc</file>
<mime>application/msword</mime>
</node>
But basically the livelink document upload process uses winnt\temp which is open for everyone .So if you give that kind of permissions for the upload path still it would not work.I have to test this .

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

If you have something like:

[general]
UploadDirectory=D:\llupload\

The objectimporter requires all files to be present in this directory for importing.
So \\ourserver\root$\DOR627_CoralEne_060516.doc will be ignored and the objectimporter searches for D:\llupload\DOR627_CoralEne_060516.doc

UK Support told me I was the first who thought this was a bad idea, and put in a feature request (2068831) for me.

I ended up writing a few batch files to copy everything over to the import directory for importing.

That is a good find.I chnged my upload path and sure as
you had said it choked.Do you have an ETA of when they will fix it?

Also thought to share this with you.There is a finite limit on the file pathing.I can get my obj importer to choke if the file path length is huge up above 255.I am entering/asking OT if this is a bug.

No ETA, no even sure if OT will implement it :(
