Just switched to XP Windows and Office... email works OK in all respects except when I click "send" on a newly written message. The following message appears: "The operation failed. An object could not be found."

It does put the email in the Outbox, so when I close the error message and do a Send/Receive, the messages goes out just fine. Any idea what the missing "object" might be and/or why I'm getting this error?

Thanks!

I read the article, but don't understand why I have to create a new profile. If I do that, how do I get rid of the old one... and will the mail and all my existing folders, etc. become part of the new profile. I guess I am cautious because I initially had three profiles in there and couldn't correct any of them until I completely reinstalled Outlook and started over. Is there a setting I can change in my current profile that will fix the problem?

I'm not on an exchange server... I am on a single PC, and when I looked at the profiles it already listed two (that had the same settings). One was just Outlook, the other Internet Outlook. Is that correct?

I have OL2002 and I have only one profile. All I access are POP3 type accounts. And I have "Always use this profile" checked on my show profiles page.
As far as I know there is no need for two profiles in OL2002.
I think in OL2000 there was an Internet Oulook and an Outlook profile (not sure) maybe the Internet Outlook profile is left over from OL2000 if you installed over.

If the settings are the same under properties, I would guess that you could remove the Internet Outlook profile.

Try just selecting the Outlook profile and choosing it as a the "Always use this profile" choice. See if that works and then remove the other profile. Post back with success or failure resolving issue(s).

I removed one of the profiles and I still get the Error message when I send. Then I use the Send/Receive command and it goes fine. It just won't send initially. My mail is on an imap server.

Should I delete the other profile and start over? If I do that, will all my existing data still be saved? I have a new machine, so unless when I did the data transfer with a data transfer cable from my old machine, there shouldn't be any leftovers from Office 2000 hanging around.

Thanks for your input... I hope we're getting closer to solving this Error and beeping when I try to send.

Since you are geting mail from an IMAP server I'd say the second profile may be needed.

I can't really advise on what will happen if you dlete the profile. Maybe you can backup the data and re install. Not sure.
