Obfuscate / protect the code in PHP

Hi,

We are developing a product in PHP and I would like to know if there is any mechanism or tool to obfuscate code written in PHP (better if it is open source).

If we install the product at the client site, anyone with access to the machine in which it is installed could be able to change or copy the code.

How would you solve this problem?
