I have a Nortel 032 with 3.3 software. Has been installed for about 8 years. Worked great. On monday it starting reseting it self. (for no apparent reason the system phones will start flashing and disconnect any call that the customer were on. the system would come back up with all programming in place). Did this 4 times thru out an 8 hour day on monday and 3 times on tuesday. I replace the power strip, the power supply and change to a new electrical outlet with new ups. I am going to do a start up in the morning. But I was wondering if anyone has had this experience and does any one no the cause. Any help will be appreciated. Help!! Thanks!!!

It does sound power related, but I did have an older system that was feeling extra warm to the touch and was intermittently burping like yours. I ended up opening up the unit and found it stuffed with paper scraps from a nearby paper shreader. I never did see what had built the nest, but I have a good idea who it was. KSU is still running fine now after giving its airflow back.

do you see any alarm relating to the rebooting on the maintenance logs?

I had a problem with an 8x24 with a flash VM like that a year ago.

The site was in for about 6-6 months when it started doing resets.

We had to do a software upgrade on the KSU-problem has gone away.

I do not have any alarms. Wish I did. I did a start up this morning. Reprogrammed system. @ hours later it did the same thing. I have ordered a new cabinet for tommorrow deleivery. I hope that works. I will keep you posted any thought will be appreciated. Thanks.

I would guess it was the software sleeve rather than the cabinet. Couldn't hurt to replace both, but I would start at the software. Might have an failing capacitor.

I just wanted to update this situation. I replaced the 032 cabinet on 3/12/04. I have not had any problem with the system since then. Thanks for your help.

If you happen to open up the old KSU, look for a charred diode D87 at location A-15 on the daughter board that the amp. cables plug into. That one will sometimes blow after a power spike.

I usualy replace the power supply, takes 60 seconds to do so and a lot cheaper then replacing a cabinet....maybe do that with the one you brought back to you office.

I appreciate the opinion but as I stated in my opening information I did replace the power supply at the begining of this situation and it did not help. Thanks, Again

Have you checked the Logs for Alarm & Evt codes?

I left the KSU on sight. But now that the problem is fixed I will go pick it up. What should I look for? Remmeber i only have the KSU not the software. I did not have any alarms or events other then system boot evt. No alarms. And of corse the alarm set had to be cleared. Thanks

If it is 8 years old, I'd still open it up without worrying about voiding the warranty. See my earlier replies for some things to look for inside.

Okay then. I'd go with what MarvO said.
