Hi, I am working on a remote switch and all area codes are to be changed to go out RLI 1 which is DMI 2. Apart from adding it to the following is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thank you in advance for you help and take care! :) AJK

Usually, I enter 1 followed by area code for NPAs
i.e. 1408 for anyone dialing long distance with area code.

If you have to change all area codes from the current RLI to this new/different RLI 2, then just double check one thing: Is the old RLI used for anything besides these area codes? If not, then just add DMI2 to the old RLI.

Don't jump too soon though...the safest bet is what you were planning.

You would be best prepared if you could make sure you have a sortable file of NPA to RLI. At my site it is called "ld90-to-excel.zip" or I link to Dave Higham's Meridian Page" Just some conveniences...I am not the author, just the custodian of the file

will show you what that dgt does, if it's like most it deletes the 1. most ld carriers know the call is ld so they don't need the one.. same as my switch, if the call is a 434 number, don't send the nxx.. all the nxx's 434 are sent here. when i add another did block i'll need either 5 or more digits depending on the new nxx they are adding..

Hi acewarlock

I am having a hard time with this. The situation is that we have been taken over by another co. and I do not know their routing, etc and there are no records. Their telco has fallen on my lap. A reboot was done over a week ago and apparently since that time problems with delay have occurred with both ld and local. Apparently a contractor came in while I was away last week and made some changes. An example of a local routes currently working correctly is seen below (Chicago area):

NPA 1815
RLI 5
SDRR NONE
ITEI NONE

Example of local not working correctly:

NPA 1708
RLI 37
SDRR NONE
ITEI NONE

Acewarlock, do I just need to change all local dialing for the Chicago area to RLI 5?

The long distance problem is that when a number is dialed there is a 30 second delay before ringing. The contractor told them that it is because there are routes configured that dont exist. They cannot tell me what long distance area codes dont experience this. Examples of a ld route experiencing the thirty second delay is seen below:

NPA 1403
RLI 29
SDRR NONE
ITEI NONE

There are countless RLI's being used. The contractor told them that many of the routes no longer exist. How do I determine what routes actually exist?

Thanks for your help; nothing like walking in a black room!

In my system I point all LD ie:(1212) calls to RLI 3 with entr 0 for LD PRI and ENTR 1 for COT in case PRI goes down.

Many years ago in another life, there used to be 1 RLB for each NPA on all the system I worked on but taht's the old way of doing things. today I have 4 RLB in my option 11C and thats all I need.

Acewarlock and John Poole, thank you so much. I will get right on it and let you know. AJK

Hi again, the locals are now working correctly; thank you. I am confused with regards to the difference between rli and route. For example I see that COT is route 0, DID route 1, DID MCI LD route 5, DID MCI LD route 6, Focal route 7 (whatever focal is). Absolutely none of the RLIs for LD map to RLI 5 or 6. Does the RLI equate to the RDB?

ie. should the routing be

NPA 1403
RLI 6 or 5

The listings from the rlb are below. Do the rlis equate directly to the routes? It appears to me that routes 5 and 6 are LD but all locals are using rli 5 which now work properly. Absolutely none of the long distance area codes appear to use the RLIS below. I am not sure which one to direct them to as I am not sure what is long distance. Please can you advise? Thanks for all your help. AJK

Hi, thank you all for your help. It turns out that there were two ld routes. I changed entr 0 to 1 and 1 to 0 and there was no delay. I will contact ld provider now to let them know their one route is toast!! Thanks again for all the support.

MCI LD is your LD service

The above are (RDB)Route Data Blocks, these are how your different routes are programed.

A RLB LD 86= Route List Block has nothing to do with RDB except it tell's the call what route to take to complete the call.

A RLI = RLB

You want to take a trip downtown to "Club NPA1212"

You know there are three routes to get there. Highway 5 is the freeway. It's the best way if it is not full of cars. The other choice is 23rd street that runs along side the freeway, kind of an overflow during rush hour...it's slower. Lastly, you could take 12th Street which is a sidestreet.

Remember the numbers of the routes in the list above.

Call the list of routes to get to Club NPA1212 "RLI 1"

In the RLI 1, create an ordered/numbered list: ENTR 0, ENTR 1, ENTR 2.

Under ENTR 0 enter ROUT 5
Under ENTR 1, enter ROUT 23
Under ENTR 2, enter ROUT 12

Whenever you want to go to Club NPA1212 (put 1212 in LD90), you refer to RLI 1 (LD86), which has your list of Routes 5, 23, and 12 (LD16) and you pick the first one you can fit your car on.

quick point, you must be tired of reading by now.

a route data block(ld 21 prt rdb) , is a folder, it contains all simular trunks. most switches have one for ld another for local, plus extras for each carrier.. the ltm shows what trunks are a member of that route..

a route list index (ld 86 prt rlb), is a command line (script) it assigns a frl (facility restriction level) which sets the cost of that entry. it also points calls to the correct route (group of trunks) it can with a dgt insert digits or delete a string of digits.. del 1 deletes one digit (the 1 in 1864) insert 1 would insert a 1 in (864) making it 8641... so if i had 864 and needed a npa, the i could del 3 insert 1864 and put the 1864 i needed..

the wrinkle.. nctl.. ld 87 prt nctl, that is a translator that changes the natural order of ncos to frl.. you could use ncos 0 to equal frl 7..

if this whole thing is a trip on a bus... then i dial 9, because that is defined as ac1, it sends me to ld 90, i then dial 1864, that sees a match in the npa table, and sends me to rlb 1 ld 86.. entry 0 says the frl (cost) is 4, i have ncos 4, quick check in 87 to see is ncos 4 is equal to or greater then frl 4, if so i can get on that bus, with a dgt removeing some of my baggage or adding trailing digits.. the bus hits the term (rdb ld 16) and sends me out on a single highway (ld 14 cot) dial any nine plus and think of the loads and tables it takes to get there.. it's not a key system but it can be broken down to simple routing
