Since upgrading to NW6, our "Licenses Installed" is now at 75 but NWAdmin is reporting "Licences USED" as 87. I have only 68 User objects plus 3 or 4 print servers probably using up licenses. Doesn't seem to make sense.

A couple of questions: 1) where can I see a breakdown or listing of the 87 licenses NWAdmin is reporting as being used? 2) I'm told iManage will allow me to manually release licences, but I can't seem to get it working. What is the secret to running iManage?

Thanks for any help available. gillis

iManage: if you have a server with a default install you can get to it by which will show you the Connection manager on the left side select Open Imanage or search novell for the correct path which is emframe something...

also with your license issue sounds like you may be on sp2 you need to backrev nlslsp.nlm Jeff

Jeff, (tektipster)

Thanks for responding - this has been a real source of frustration. Quote from Novell TID says "One user ID should only ever consume one license, even if logged in concurrently from any number of PCs to any number of NetWare 6 servers in the same tree." However, that's exactly what is happening. Even though I limit a person's concurrent connections to one(1), if they log out and log in to a different PC, Netware says they've consumed another license and the number keeps growing unless I continue to remove them.

You mentioned something about SP2; yes we are on SP2 - what did you mean about "backrev nlslsp.nlm"?

Thanks for any help, gillis

There is a known bug in sp2. Basically you can start by looking at iManage and see the connections.

TID# 10073805 from support.novell.com will point you in the right direction. Note: if you selected to backup the files while doing sp2 just go to the system\backsp2 dir and find nlslsp.nlm instead of digging up your NW6 CD.

Then as a matter of validation go back to iManage the connections should start clearing up quickly. If they don't you can manually take them out from iManage. Because of the new licensing scheme in nw6 connections are accumulated for 90 days so when you have some down time you can clear all connections if need be.

Good Luck
Jeff Farr.

Thanks, Jeff

I'll pursue what you've suggested. Unfortunately, the other problem I didn't mention was that iManage will not run. The upgrade was performed by a contractor who is at a distance now. He suggested that perhaps it was on another port because I've tried the with no success.

We'll keep working on it.

Thanks again for the suggestion. gillis

Jeff,

Thanks so much for the tip on NLSLSP.nlm I "backrev"'d and sure enough my licenses are displaying and acting appropriately.

I did notice however, that I now can't display license reports/graphs in NWAdmin. Hopefully, this will be resolved when Novell comes out with a fix.

re: imanage - it just doesn't want to run, even with the complete command. The contractor suggested it may be on an alternate port; don't know why nor how to test that.

Anyway, thank you for the license help - that's a great relief.

I wouldn't hold your breath on nwadmin. Console One and Imanage are probably where all the future development will be. There is a Desktop problem with NwAdmin it only allows for a certain amount of threads, novell has been complaining about this for a few years which is why most of newer novell probucts have console one snap-ins but limited support for nwadmin.

good luck.
