Hello everyone
I have a nw5.1 sp7 server with two NICs. Server runs fine but only for a few days. Suddenly one of the NICs stop functioning. Cannot ping it from the network and cannot ping anything from the server and out. The other NIC works fine. If I restart the server the NIC works fine again for a few days.
I have checked the abend.log and nothing shows up there.
If I would exchange the faulting NIC with an identical NIC, would I then loose the settings which are entered now or would it just start functioning as usual ?

Any other tips of resolving this would be appriciated.

/Dan

Might be worth replacing the NIC to see if the NIC is faulty, it also may be worth checking the NIC statistics in MONITOR to see whether you are getting port errors as well. If you replace the NIC with one of the same, you won't have to reconfigure the server.

Don't rule out problems with your network switch ports either.....

Tnx for the fast response, I will give it a try tomorrow.

BTW, when I replace the NIC, is it "locked" to a specific pci slot ? Assume I would remove the old nic and put an identical i another pci slot, would I have to reconfigure then ?

/D

You would, although if you use INETCFG it should not be too much of a hardship to reconfigure the slot number (although it may be worth taking a note of the old slot number if you need to revert back to it).

where in MONITOR will I find the stats for the network ? been looking for quite a while now but I can´t find it, hehe..

In MONITOR, look for LAN/WAN drivers, then press Tab on the NIC.
