For some reason, not yet established, directory services has been corrupted. It is possible to use the network without directory services e.g. logging in with "login /b " in dos.
The administrators password is not accepted by the server - error 601 but works using login/b. However NETADMIN or its windows equivalent are not useable without Directory services.
If I remove and install directory services will all passwords be lost. If not, what will be lost

If you are on about a single server in a single server NDS, you will loose everything in your NDS by removing and reinstalling NDS. This includes any rights on directories.

What errors do you get when you perform a DSREPAIR? Check out the following Novell TID:

This is a single server.

To reinstall, how far back nmust I go?
Will drivers need to be reinstalled?
Will routing tables need to be done again?
Can any user info be retained?

From my point of view if you are sure the NDS problem cannot be resolved, you are better off effectively starting again. However I hope you read the Novell TID in my last post and actioned the tasks in there.

Depending on what backups you have been doing on the server, your data should be restorable to the recreated server, however any trustees will be gone as you will have a new NDS. -----------------------------------------------------
