NW 5.1 Upgrade reports it is still NW 5.0

Performed NW v.5.0 to v.5.1 in-place upgrade (on same server). Went smooth, no problems, new 5.1 licenses acccepted, server runs OK.

But, when we try to install third party programs (BackUpExec), or implement 5.1 specific utilities, it says we are running NW 5.0.

At the server console command line:
VERSION
Novell Netware 5.1, Support Pack revision 02a
Server version 5.00.09

NDS 8 is installed and running.

Can't figure it. No errors on install. Did we get a half upgrade?
