NW 5.1 Install Problem

I've begun installation of a new 5.1 server at a site that currently had a 4.11 working. During the GUI portion of the install I have configured the IP address, gateway, subnet and check the IPX box. When I click the advanced button to specify my frame type, I get a randomly generated number for 802.2 instead of the wire address. I can edit the field but my change is not saved. If I rconsole from my laptop to the 4.11 box I do get the full ipx address which includes the wire address and the mac of my laptop's nic. Both servers are plugged into the same Cisco 2900 and the ports have the same configuration.

Any suggestions?

Let it run through the install using the random IPX Net address that it selects. Once the upgrade is completed, edit you AUTOEXEC.NCF file in SYS:SYSTEM and modify the following command line...

BIND IP <NIC NAME> NET=

The other way would be to use INETCFG.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I did find the net parameter in the bind statement but I was not sure of the implications doing it that way. I work for a state agency here in Florida with a fairly large tree and this is a production server at the second largest facility in our district. I really didn't feel comfortable putting it in the tree when I knew that it wasn't seeing that wire address. I understand that it would have sapped this address down to the workstations but how would this have affected nds if the server itself still didn't see the address?

Since my original post I have taken the box back to my home office for more troubleshooting. During the installation, the wire addresses for that building were detected correctly. At least that rules out the box's hardware.

Luckily I get to pass the buck of troubleshooting the telecom problem to someone else :)

Thanks again.
