Printer works fine via NetWare under queues on w98 machines. Can't even get to install the (latest from HP website) drivers on the w2000 machines.

We have latest Netware 5.1 with client 4.83 SP1 for W2000 with with SP3 installed.

Have even resorted to connecting the printer direct to the LPT1 port, but still can't fully install drivers.

Also can't print to it under Windows Network Printer sharing

It has been suggested by our head office techie that we ditch the DJ1220C because it is just incompatible with W2000 - seems a bit extreme for a relatively new printer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as have been scouring the forums for a definitive fix.

We have obvously tried uninstalling/installing the printer drivers and software, so many times that it will no longer uninstall the software from Control panel. I'm loath to go onto into the regisry without fully detailed instruction, because we also have an HP LJ5000N in same network that works fine with W2000 and W98 machines and don't want to mess this up.

Advice please

Haydn

That printer is definately compatible with W2k. You don't mention the errors you get when installing the printer software. Are you trying to do it via Point and Print or locally on W2k workstations?

We have an older DeskJet than the DJ1220 (forget which model it is, but it is similar) and it works ok with Point and Print and NetWare queues. -----------------------------------------------------

Incidentally, we the DJ1220C is connected via a Jet Direct,

The way I've been tring to get the printer on W2000 is on add printer, then as network printer, trawling down the bits on the server until find its name (Q_HP1220C or whatever)then clicking on that, letting it ask for drivers, then pointing it at the place where the W2000 drivers are.

Today's effort on a different W2000 machine, apparently installs the drivers OK, but when you try to print a test page, error message comes back, that as I recall is fairly unspecific, like "problem printing to this port (or does it say printer?) click OK to try again or cancel".

This method is however the same way we set up the W2000 machines to use the DJ1220C.

We also have a LJ2000N and Design Jet 250 that work fine via queues from W2000 workstations.
