I downloaded nvidias newest drivers the other day. I noticed they were just release in december. Well went to a lan party yesterday a few days after updating it. Starting having lock ups on a game, after several things finally discovered it was the new video card driver. So I removed it and installed the original back. It only locked up on certain games. Quake 3 was one of them however it seemed to work fine on half life 2. Anyways just was wondering if anyone has tried this new driver and had any conflicts? The old driver works flawlessly.

Video card aopen 128MB GeForce4 MX4000

GF4 MX4000 (NV19 core) basically cut down MX440, pretty low performing as the MX440 is already a cut down GPU.

This family of GPU's has been around for several years now so the best perfoming drivers for this particular card are several revisions ago.

What you have to appreciate is the current set of Nvidia detonators are optimised for the current crop of 7xxxxx graphics cards, so although they support all previous offerings they are not necessarily the best for that era of display adapter.

I guess thats the problem with the "one fits all phylosophy" the best driver for any given card range is usually the last driver released before the new range appears, so that would have been cica GF5 "FX" range.

There are unfortunately other considerations as well ie: new games often require newer driver support, DX9c etc etc.
So my advice is the latest driver that works well for any given card.

Yeah I think I will stick with this one as it works fine without any problems. Appreciate the info though.
