Nvidia conflict when sound card is loaded

This system has an amd 2000+ processor, 512mb ddr2700, Via chipset mother board with on board sound and video. Customer was trying to install an nvidia based video card (MSI geforce mx440 128mb), and any sound card. This combination when running Windows ME, will lock up after you load the drivers for them. Either will work without the other. Any ideas about the conflict. I did get ATI chipped video cards to work but I was trying to resolve the Nvidia problem because he cant spend more money.

sounds like a irq problem, disable acpi in bios and do a fresh install (unfortunately when acpi is loaded u cant get rid of it easily, there are some workarounds 2 that but no garantie that it´ll work)
