Soon as I get money back from college that is leftover im going to be buying some stuff to get back into video editing. I was looking at different capture cards when a friend mentioned that you could use the video card for capture. I had never done this before as I had always used capture cards.

I am running an evga pcie 16x 7950 512MB video card. I have the link below. Is it possible to capture video will this card? If it does will it capture very well or would I be better off with a capture card?

The spec page says "VIVO: No", so the answer is 'no' for that card - VIVO stands for Video In, Video Out.

Capture cards are generally better than VIVO-enabled graphics cards because the latter normally only have s-video inputs, which isn't too bad but you can get better. The main down-side is that video input is an afterthought so the drivers (and possibly signal quality) aren't going to be as good as a dedicated capture card.

I used to have an nVidia VIVO card which I used for capturing and my main problem was that the driver blue-screened quite often.
