i'm using flash mx and every time i overlap one object with another, it gets grouped together becoming one huge object. for example, if i had a horizontal rule crossing over a vertical rule, they join up together to become a cross and i want to keep them as individual objects.

all snaps are off. any help would be appreciated!

Layers. Drawing items on the same layer will combine if overlapping. If you don't want to use layers you can use an individual MC for each element. Flash 8 adds "object" drawing that allow you to draw without having the objects combine.

Hope it helps.

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!
