Would anybody be able to advise what quantifiable data (both source and threshold) can be used to prepare a case for upgrading Citrix 3 to 4.5? I am aware as to the qualifiable benefits but I have run into an issue where a purchaser wants numbers to prove intermittent slowness and freezing sessions as well as printing issues has anything to do with running Citrix 3 and is not related to other (published) applications or solely networking issues.

This is definitely helpful.

I was hoping that I could get information regarding specific metrics which would show that CITRIX 3.0 is insufficient for their current needs. They do have many problems with their environment but seem hesitant to accept that it is related to their current CITRIX.

Non-the-less, this will no doubt be useful.

Thanks

The only other personal info that I can offer is that we upgraded from Metaframe XP to 4.5 64 bit and upgraded our hardware. We cut the number of Terminal Servers in half from 10 to 5. Initially, of course, there was money to lay out for the intial investmaent. But maintenance, heat and power consumption are less. Also, after constant complaints of performance from users, we have not heard any complaints since upgrading.

4.5 is a great product. but! I'm not so sure that using version 3 as a scapegoat for poor performance is the way to go.

If your customer has wacky performance problems, I'd suggest doing a bit of work and troubleshooting on those problems first.

How do the servers perform when you take Citrix out of the equation and connect using RDP? What's in the event logs of the servers in question etc.? Are the printer drivers they're using even supported?

How is the page file set on the servers? Do the disks need to be defragged? What speed are the servers' NICs set at and so on and so on

What OS are the servers? If they're Windows 2000, then an upgrade to 2003 might be a better option to look at.
