Hi
I'm not a Word expert by any means and I've got an issue with numbering that I can't seem to solve.

The document in question uses styles Heading 1 and Heading 2, each of which are numbered. So ideally the doc would look like:

Code:
1. First heading
1.1 sub-heading

2. Second heading
2.1 sub heading
2.2 sub heading

3. Third heading
3.1 sub heading
3.2 sub heading

etc...

However, what is happening is this:

Code:
1. First heading
1.1 sub heading

2. Second heading
1.2 sub heading
1.3 sub heading

3. Third heading
1.4 sub heading
1.5 sub heading

etc..

I'm assuming that the Heading 2 style has got mixed up somewhere and is continuing numbering from the previous heading rather than starting again for the new heading. I've hunted through various settings in Word but I don't seem to be able to fix this.

Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

Hi,

when you adapt numbering of your headings, you'd choose heading level 2 and expand the dialogue.

In the lower right corner of the dialogue there's a checkbox which in German* reads "Neu numerieren nach".

If it is ticked and the next textbox is set to level 1 your headings should be numbered correctly.

* Unfortunately I don't know the English caption. In VBA it would be "ResetOnHigher", so it might read "Reset numbering after level..." or "Re-number after level..." or something like that.

Hi Markus
Thanks for your reply. I've tried to modify the Heading 2 style (right click on Heading 2 in the ribbon and then select "Modify") but I don't seem to be able to find anything to do with resetting numbering. I've also tried going into the Numbering option (from the Format drop-down) for Heading 2 but again, I can't see anything regarding resetting numbering.

Am I looking in the right place?
