Numbering in Word2000

Numbering irregular. Document does same on different PCs.
Example:
1
1.1
1.2
2
1.1
3
1.1
1.2
1.3 As you can see the indented first number never changes. Any idea what could be causing this? other documents are fine. Thanks

Have you tried turning off the numbering help and doing manually?

Maybe they have the wrong kind of numbering chosen, or you don't have the latest Office patch.
