Numbering each record in report?????

Hi all,
Wondering if anybody has done this or knows if\how it can be done.
I have a report that has 3 sub-reports on it. I want to give each record that comes up in the report a number, like the first record in the report is 1 etc. til the last. The sub-reports get their info from parameter queries and the main report just combines them to display them as one report.
Would I have to use the queries to number each record?Or can it be done in the report itself?

Any help or ideas on this would be great.

Just add an textbox at the left end of the row. The control source of the textbox is "=1". Make the "Running Sum" property as "Over all" if there is no group level and "over group" there is group levels.
