Is there a limit on the number of users you can have in an Access database at any one time?

Also, can you put read only access on certain fields?

Hi

Theoritical maximum is 255, but in practice is lower than this. You will get as many opinions as people whom you ask on how many you can have in practice, it depends on what the users are doing (updating / viewing), quality of the application, quality of the Network infrastructure. A reasonable gues is anywhere between 10 and 50, but I am sure someone will post saying the have a db handling 150 and someone else will say their db crashed with more than four users.

If you update and view tables via forms and queries (which you should) you can set control properties (enabled and locked) to prevent user update of data, also you can invoke Access security system

Ken is referring to the default Jet database. You can select MS SQL Server or something like MYSQL, in which case Access can support thousands of users.

I uh, wrote a FAQ about this. It basically says what Ken said, and includes 'BNPMike's disclaimer:

How many (max) users can Access support? faq181-4462
