Has anyone experienced problems with the number of subreports in one main report. I have got 4 queries and 4 subreports. Each subreport is based on 1 particular query. When I put 3 of the subreports in my main report it runs fine. As soon as I put a 4th subreport in the main report, when I run it it takes ages and says, 'Formatting report, press Ctrl and Break to end'. I have to end the report as it takes minutes to generate and still doesn't finish. Any ideas ? The queries are very simple and only return 2 fields.

I would be extremely surprised to find that there is a limit on the number of subreports. I can say with 99% certainty that no such limit exists.

The first thing that I would do is make a report (lets call it fakeRep) that just has ONE subreport: the one that you add last, that seems to cause the problem. Make sure that you connect fakeRep to the subreport in the same way that you connected the real report to the subreport. Of course fakeRep will need to have the appropriate data source, etc.

Run the experiment and see what happens. If fakeRep works fine, you can say "gee, Steve didn't know anything". If fakeRep fails, then you can start trying to find the source of that failure.

It's not a particular report that is causing the problem. I can run each of the sub reports or 2 or 3 of them and it works. I think I have a problem when the report needs to display more than 1 page. It just seems to hang. This is why when I put a 4th subreport in, it fails. Doesn't matter what combination of subreports I use, as long as it doesn't go over the page. I have tried inserting page breaks but this doesn't help either. Each query is independant, the sub reports are not linked to the main report in any way.
