I'm trying to decide if i need to grab a lisc for SQL Serv or if i can get by with the included MSDE. I'm looking to run about 5 small sites with about 25 users per site. Nothing real big. and there will be a couple hundred word and excel documents that will be a part of the document library. So i need everyones opinion, MSDE or SQL Serv.?

Hello,

Since you are not going to be using very large sites and ammount of users and data (unless each of your documents are very large in size), MSDE will work.

The way of setup depends on many things, there are pros and cons for each type of setup. If you do not want to generate costs obtaining a full SQL server license at this time, then go with MSDE and if needed you can upgrade to run SharePoint with a full SQL later on.

With the MSDE shipped with sharepoint you do not have the 2GB limit as in the "regular" MSDE.

Best Regards,
Thomas
