Hi

My users are working on Solaris (v.2.7 or 2.8) with an old CISAM application. They are receiving an error like "fail to open lock file", "too many locks" or "too many open files".

My question is:
Is there any possibility to change number of open files/locks per session/global in Solaris? SCO has such tools (this is a kernel parameter).

Thanks in advance

Try running "man limit". I think the number of open files is controlled by variable descriptor. Default is 64.

it depends on what file descriptor is used by the Application, the open() or fopen() System Call; one has a hard limit, the other one is settable, just like bfitzmai pointed out!

Best Regards, Franz

checkout rlim_fd_cur and rlim_fd_max in the tunable
