I'm looking at installing Hp's layer 2 managed switches across an RV Park. This would require that none of the clients (RV'rs) would be able to communicate with eachother.

After taking the 4 CCNA classes and the first CCNP class, I understand how to set up Vlan's and subinterfaces on a cisco router.

We would have all the switches hooked together, and connected to the 1 port on the router. We could then use the different subinterfaces (subnets) to do security stuff like ACL's and such.

The switch of choice is the HP 2524. Becouse of its lowcost, managability, and 1000 SX or LX (additional modules).

After looking at the documentation on HP's website, I was unable to determine how many dynamic VLAN's the switch supports. It says it supports 30 port based. That is fine, so we would use dynamic. If anyone out there has one of these switches, could they respond with how many dynamic Vlan's can be assigined? (not using GVRP! :)

Or, if anyone else knows of a low-cost, managable, Vlan-capable, and fiber_for_uplink switch, please post the info.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read thru the message. :)

Why go on a Cisco course and then go cheap?

Sorry, but that is stupid.

Did you not learn anything?

HP is fantastic, in a low cost, not cheap environment. But Cisco is the best.

CGMP, one reason to stay with Cisco. You may not like the cost, however, multicast and IPV6 is the future. Cisco are there now.

Sorry Ralph, do not take offence, but that is the way to go.
