number of Cache buffer is getting too low!!!

Hi,

I'have got a server under novell 5 this message appears : number of Cache buffer is getting too low. twice a week. the system crash and I restart
I have increased the parameter db_block_buffers in the init.ora, and no change

Can anyoone help me about this

I think there is a good chance that this message doesn't refer to the Oracle cache at all. Perhaps it's referring to the O/S cache. Novell may not have enough memory to do its work because too much is allocated to Oracle.

A too small buffer cache in Oracle might affect performance, but should never cause a crash. On the other hand the entire server could go down if the operating system is having problems.

If my guess is correct then you should reduce parameters like shared_pool_size and db_block_buffers in order to free up extra memory for the O/S. [sig][/sig]

Thank you for your answer, another question, if I increase the server memory RAM from 255 meg to 640 or higher,
can it resolve the problem

By all means go ahead and increase the RAM on your server, if that's an option. If your only problem is lack of memory that should fix it. Of course you may be encountering a bug which will require a specific software patch, but hopefully that's not the case. [sig][/sig]
