I am not an Oracle Programmer, but I have to pull flat-text data from Oracle tables. Having said that, I am trying to figure out the formula to determine how much space to allocate to numeric fields. All of our tables are Number (x,x) and it appears that the vast majority are 10 spaces. The ones that are (2,0), (3,0) and (5,0) are all 10 spaces, but the (6,3) is 14. If I am to write a script to automatically read these flat text files, I need to know how to calculate size, and my "Complete Reference Guide" isn't.
