Null Values

I'm having some trouble handling Null values when I submit them to my database from my .net page. I can handle the strings fine, obviously, but I'm having trouble with foreign keys and dates and things like that. I was just wondering if anyone had a good site for me to look at to read up on the subject. Thank you.
