I am using Crystal 7 and dragging data from an ingress database on a sco box

The problem is when I get a null field returned it returns the date of 31/12/99
I know this is a null field but why does it return this date.

Will upgrading to crystal 8 work or is there a formula to fix this.

This is a processing option.

Under the file menu, Select options, Reporting tab, and make sure the checkbox titled "convert null field values to default" is NOT CHECKED.

This is just the "beginning of time" default...if you want a null returned then follow dgillz's advice and remove that option to convert nulls to defaults Jim

I have done this and still have the problem

It is a date/time field formatted as a date.

With Ver 7 would it be a y2k bug?

I do not believe this is a Y2K issue. I cannot believe that unchecking "convert null field values to default" did not solve the problem.

Are you SURE the field is null? Just becuase a field shows no value in your Ingress interface does not mean it is null.

Maybe you can try to look at the raw data in a couple of ways - one is obviously your interface to Ingress. For another option, I would suggest creating a MS Access link table to browse the raw data in Ingress, to confirm that it is a null value.

I have looked at this data in raw format and it def is empty.
Is there something I could put in the formula that will convert a null field to a text of ""

You cannot have an if-then that mixes datatypes. IF isnull({field}) then "" else {datefield} mixes datatypes and would pose a porblem.

If Insull({field}) then "" else totext({Datefield})

would be a workaround. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
