nube just starting. Where do I start?!?

I would like a java applet to display two pictures(both the same size on the screen) to begin with.
when you click on the righthand picture, the lefthand picture will change to the next picture in the list. The list should be generated as a list containing all of the jpeg pictures in a given directory.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
