We have a homegrown app here that's pretty old school. It runs in within a DOS shell. So, when it runs in Windows XP, it uses NTVDM to run. Now, when this app runs within the NTVDM, it uses 98% of CPU resources on these XP Pro machines. The machines are all Pentium 4 2.8Ghz Processors and at least 512MB of RAM. The users experience brief pauses where the machine "locks up" while in this application.
My question is: Is there a way to control how much CPU usage NTVDM uses? We've tried running the machine without any AV software in the background and even off the network and on a different subnet.
Since it's owned by a different department we're not getting much support with the homegrown app.
Thanks in advance
