NTVDM.EXE causing t-online to crash

Hi folks.

Everytime I start T-online (my internet provider)NTVDM.EXE asks my fire wall permitition to accsess the internet. This I have found I must refuse as it causes a programme failure and t-online crashes. However sometimes it seems it does not always consult the fire wall and t-online crashes anyway.
What is NTVDM.EXE? is it nessercery? or should I be looking for some oter cause?

If you receive the following, your only option is to press OK:

NTVDM.EXE has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

Virtual-8086 mode is used to run MS-DOS and 16-bit applications in their own environment, without interfering with other applications. Most modern processors have support for Virtual Mode Extensions (VME), which provides enhancements to virtual 8086 mode, but it is possible that your processor may not have full support for VME.
