I have some files that are in 640x368 format (I think it's PAL) and whenever I compress them to 720x480 for NTSC, they look squished on my monitor. Will it look that way on the NTSC television as well?

The files are from a british TV show so I'm pretty sure the format is PAL. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Normal PAL format is 720 x 576, I believe, and at 24 fps. NTSC is 720x480 at 29.997 fps.

640x368 has an aspect ratio of 1.74, compared to an aspect ratio of 1.5 for NTSC, so your video will indeed looked squished.

Right click on the clip, under Video, select 'Maintain Aspect Ratio'.

PAL is 25fps. 720x576 PAL applies to DV CODEC material using non-square pixels. Full frame PAL in square pixel space is 768x576.

640x368 is not a common frame size here in PAL country.
