Can anyone help

Can you clarify what the question is, please? Have you tried a keyword search for ntp in this forum - there's some excellent stuff there.

I want to be good, is that not enough?

It seems that your peers are not reachable!

Try this link (I hope this helps much):

Your reach value should be 377 which is 100% reachable! and your 'local' should show the IPs of the peer servers!

What is the lssrc -s xntpd shows?

try ping ntp0.uk.uu.net to see if the host is reachable! (Even if it is reachable with that this doesn't mean it will be reachable in the case of the ntp)

Khalid

Ken,

I have looked through the information on NTP, but I still can not see why it is not working. I am a little confussed.

I have tried to work through the information that I can find, but I can not get the local address as below to show the host ip address, which i think is needed.

ukentdbasp60:/ #xntpdc -s
remote local st poll reach delay offset disp
=======================================================================
ntp0.uk.uu.net 0.0.0.0 2 64 17 0.01105 -7195.347 1.87639
ntp1.uk.uu.net 0.0.0.0 2 64 17 0.01126 -7195.347 1.87682
ntp2.uk.uu.net 0.0.0.0 2 64 17 0.00778 -7195.352 1.87602

Hi Khalidaaa,

I have to keep starting the xntpd. I have assumed that this is because of inactivity.

I can not ping through the filewall, but the rules do allow for connection using "tcp123" and "udp123" ports.

I have already looked through the link you provided, but I can not understand where I am going wrong.

Thanks

if xntpd won't start or won't stay up, it is mostly because time on the server is not within a "reasonable" offset of the time on the ntp server(s).

Time server(s) unreachable seems also a plausible reason for the xntpd to bail out...
