Okay, We have a Option 11 that does have a IP address that is used for OTM to communicate to the system. How would I setup a Time Sync to sync the time on the phone system to the computer clocks. I know users have suggested ProComm but we do not have that, I would use Putty or some method to get in but I do not get a response when I telnet into the IP (port 23). What are my options or scripts that can be ran on the OTM or possibly through a PC that is running OTM?

Thanks in advance, you guy's are great with these systems.

What version are you on? If 5.0 or above you can do NTP with no gyrations its built right in.

Question: We have a Nortel PBX running a CS1000 software load.

The clocks on the office computers are set through NTP. The clocks on the PBX drift. I reset them using LD 2 and the time reset procedure.

Under LD 117 it is apparent that the CS1000 can be programmed to using an NTP clock source. I would like more details on all this. Ideally with NTP we can lock the PBX and Computers clocks together.

The first thought that I have is why use NTP anyway. I have always understood that the PBX derives clocking from a central office line and then distributes that clocking throughout the PBX. The clocks on carrier networks are always precise - and I would assume they would match any NTP clock source out there.

Questions:
1) Am I wrong the PBX is not clocking from the Carrier trunks?
2) If they are why the time drift between the PBX and NTP source of the computer network?

I am new to this position but apparently the PBX is largely maintained by the carrier providing our lines. They seem reluctant to activate NTP clocking but haven't said why.

Question
Is it a potential issue around receiving clocking from the carrier trunk and the NTP source or is it some other reason?

I would suggest before re-inventing the wheel doing a Keyword Search 'NTP' on this subject, you'll find some interesting recent posts on this subject

Cheers!!

The term "Clocking" in T1/PRI terms is related to timing of the circuit. It does not have any relation to the PBX Time though. Unfortunately, you can't obtain the time from the carrier over the circuit. That would involve technology generally reserved for an $8 Caller ID box :)
