I need to change the NTP in our S8720 servers, running CM 3.1. Does anyone know for certain if the NTP must be Windows source or a Linux source. I read every post I could find on this subject and found some posts state it can't be a LINUX source and others that state it must be a LINUX source. Does anyone know the answer? I appreciate any help. Thanks!
 
I am not sure what source my NTP server is, but it is currently working. I use us.pool.ntp.org and I have it all working fine now. I did have some trouble getting it to work, but it finally started to work, and I haven't had any trouble since. I did a lot of research, made phone calls, talked to Avaya, and I found that just doing it worked best. Make sure you make the changes to the Standby server first, Interchange, and then do the other server. It took a couple of interchanges before I was able to get my to stabilize. I haven't had any problems now for about 2 1/2 months...

If you have NTP enabled on your Windows server, then you can use your windows Domain controllers for NTP, which is typically how I set up the phone switches we install. I also use time.nist.gov as a 2nd or 3rd time source, as a backup.

Is it a known issue on the S8720 time slips 6 mintues over a period of time? It is a known issue with S8500. Avaya recommends NTP/NTS to resolve/keep time for 85s.

If 8720 has same issue is Avaya recommending the NTP synch Vs. PCN/PSN patches available?
