I use a few WACI NX+'s to automate some of our conference rooms. It has a setting for an NTP server, but the MFG says I need port 123 open. As far as I can tell it is...but the NTP does not seem to updtate the time. How can I prove/test NTP server port 123 is open? (I'm trying to sync to external server)

WACI Info:

Any help appreciated!

I suppose there are two approaches to determing if NTP is getting through:

1. Verify what intelligent networking devices (firewalls and routers) exist between your conferencing system and the NTP source. These devices (esp the firewalls) may need checking/reconfiguring to allow NTP through in both directions. If some of these devices aren't managed by you or colleagues of yours and there are a large number of potential devices, it could turn into a protracted affair.

2. Monitor all network traffic destined to and sourced from the conferencing unit using a network analyzer (Ethereal - - springs to mind as it's freely available). This will tell you whether NTP messages are being exchanged or not. If they're not of course, you may still end up having to do step 1!

Thanks for the info. I was succesful at 'pinging' Time.Nist.Gov, so I think I should be OK...will see later.
