Hi folks:

I am running win2k and recently I have experience a problem when win2k starts up.
Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <windows 2000 root> \system32\NTOSKRNL.exe. My concern is that early this year I applied Servicepack #3 to the system and I need this modulefrom the service pack. I cannot extract themodule from the Cd due to the module size.Does anybody know how to get this module from the service pack or microsoft.

I doubt it will do you any good but you can open the service pack file with winzip, extract ntoskrnl.ex_ then use expand command to decompress it (this assumes you've got full versiion of SP3 and winzip or similar - you can get working shareware version of winzip if you need).

Or of course, you can find it here C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386\ntoskrnl.exe

Your symptoms often mean a hardware error - hope I'm wrong & replacing the file sorts it for you.

Ok,not the tidiest way but here goes....
get a copy of "ntoskrnl.exe", rename the file to "kernel01.exe" and put it in the system32 folder.Add the following line to the "boot.ini" file in the C:\ directory.
You should be sorted then...
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Hacked Logo" /fastdetect /kernel=kernel01.exe

This is provided you can get into the OS at all. If you cant there is another solution in the treads which i will try and find for you.Should be repairable tho...
